Sticking to the Plan

Earlier this fall I had set out some goals and am very happy to say I have been fulfilling them.
And just for fun I used the magic of instagram to keep track of each enjoyed moment- especially the beautiful bike rides and improvised mustaches.

Early Autumn Ambitions

1. Explore new trails before it gets too chilly for hikes.
2. Quilting, and lots of it.
3. Get the most out of rainy days and finish long overdue murals.
4. Eat as many apple cider donuts as possible.

What's on your fall agenda?

A Capitol Trip.

On Monday we took a little weekday getaway to D.C. for Danny's annual end of summer vacation time.
We enjoyed a trip to the zoo, a surprise earthquake, and the cool, breezy days which were perfect for bike riding to the monuments. Overall, pretty exciting. After we visited with family we headed home before the winds pick up from any wandering hurricanes.
And, I just had to include these of the kids since all pictures look so much more fun from instragram.

New Set of Wheels

Big news around here...
...we finally have a Madsen. It is just as I had imagined and we have all been loving our family rides together. Danny and I switch off pulling the kids around, and I will admit it has gotten us out and exploring the less beaten paths around our new town.
Like I do with most things I thoroughly enjoy, I started chronicling some of my most happy moments and favorite pictures of our adventures, which can be found here.

Bicycles & Backpacking

Last summer I wanted to fill a need by making some cute backpacks that I could use when riding my bike. I made mine compact and added a longer strap so it can be worn like a market tote for easy use while I am out.
I have gotten so much use from mine I thought I might put a few in my little shop. Some are simply back packs, while others have the extra strap, and the first batch all feature beautiful floral prints from Naomi Ito.
I have been itching to get back on my bike. There is always a magical, familiar feeling I get when I ride. It has been a bit of a challenge trying to tow both of the kids with the old trailer I found off of craigslist, as it seems to always have flat tires. Now that Phia is going to be five, I was hoping that our biking options would be a little wider, but I am still keeping my Madsen dream alive. Especially after reading this, watching this, and being inspired by this gelato bike.

Cycling New Jersey

This cool fall weather has been perfect for biking. It is so enjoyable to travel by bicycle- I love the brisk breeze on my face, and the sound of leaves rustling under my tires.
Shortly into this preschool experience I realized that one child is much more easy to manage than two, and even more so, one is much more easy to pull in my bike trailer. While I take care of most of the effort getting us from place to place, Ori regulates our playlist.
If you are looking for any inspiration to go for a ride, might I suggest you check out just a couple of posts at velocouture? And while I am on the topic of bicycles, wouldn't it kind of be totally amazing to own one of these beauties?

Vintage Appreciation

While we were at a classic car show over on our cute little Main street, I discovered that Phia has the makings of an auto model. While Ori was busy checking out every single car, Phia entertained herself by striking poses & dancing to oldies.
Since we traveled by bicycle, I had the chance to take my new biking backpack on its debut tour of the town.
I wanted something compact & simple with a utilitarian feel. When I was finished, I couldn't help but sew on a little piece from my collection of lace, thus satisfying my need for vintage adornment.
