I think there are some instances where it isn't bad to hoard. Some of my favorite things to collect are vintage tea towels, handkerchiefs, and laces.
Some are so nice they have been finding their way into some recent sewing projects.

Oh those are so pretty! I have an old tablecloth that I'm hoping to make into something soon. Vintage fabrics are the best.
